Catheter

The catheter is a tube made of natural rubber, silicone rubber or polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It can be inserted into the bladder through the urethra to drain urine. After the catheter is inserted into the bladder, there is a catheter near the head of the catheter. The balloon-fixing catheter stays in the bladder and it is not easy to escape, and the drainage tube is connected to the urine bag to collect the urine.

Catheter Care Steps

Wash hands and remove germs from your hands to prevent infection.

Prepare the following utensils: 1. One pack of cotton swabs, 2. One roll of air-permeable paper tape, 3. One plastic bag, 4. Bedpan, 5. Saline or boiled water, 6. Iodine disinfectant solution (if necessary ).

Place the potty into the patient's buttocks.

Separate the labia or retract the foreskin by hand.

Wet a piece of urinary catheter near the end of the catheter with cotton buds moistened with physiological saline or boiled water for about one inch (2.5 cm). Use one stick of cotton buds each time, and put the dirty cotton sticks in hand. Plastic inside.

Check for any scars or abnormal drainage or secretions. If yes, please inform medical staff.

The urinary catheter is fixed to the inner thigh (female patient) or the lower abdomen (male patient) by means of a gas-permeable adhesive tape in the shape of a well. Each day, the adhesive site must be replaced to prevent long-term adhesion or catheter compression, resulting in skin damage.
