Release of 5-year survival rates for different types of childhood tumors

Today, the National Children's Cancer Monitoring Annual Report (2024), compiled by the National Children's Cancer Monitoring Center, was released, reporting the latest hospitalization characteristics, medical distribution, epidemic characteristics, and 5-year survival rate of new cases in China from 2018 to 2019 for children's tumors from 2021 to 2022.

According to the International Classification of Childhood Tumors, 3rd edition (ICCC-3), the top five cancer types with the highest 5-year survival rates among the 12 major cancer categories are retinoblastoma (90.40%), malignant epithelial and melanoma (88.32%), germ cell tumors (86.37%), lymphoma (84.72%), and renal tumors (82.82%). The three cancers with the lowest survival rates are malignant bone tumors (59.23%), soft tissue sarcomas (64.02%), and liver tumors (67.98%).

In addition, the 5-year survival rate for new cases in 2018-2019 was 76.42%. From the perspective of population distribution, the survival rate of children aged 0-14 years old is 77.05%, while that of children aged 15-19 years old is 74.33%; The survival rate of girls (78.44%) is higher than that of boys (74.85%).

As of now, the number of national pediatric tumor monitoring points has expanded from 425 in 2021 to 1764, covering 31 provinces across the country. Approximately 8.047 million case report cards have been registered in the database, and about 410000 children with malignant tumors have been included in the full course tracking management.
