Classification of surgical sutures
The core characteristics of surgical sutures are biocompatibility, mechanical stability, and absorbability (or inertness) to meet surgical needs, while also considering healing support and safe adaptation.
Absorbable suture
The material is mostly made of polyglycolic acid, polylactic acid, etc., and there is no need to remove the suture after surgery, reducing secondary trauma. It is suitable for short-term healing of deep tissues and epidermal wounds in the body.
Non absorbable suture
Made of silk thread, nylon, polypropylene, etc., with long-lasting strength and requiring postoperative suture removal. It is suitable for wounds with high tension on the skin surface (such as abdominal and limb surgeries) or areas that require long-term fixation.
Special functional sutures
Some with antibacterial coating (such as containing triclosan) to reduce the risk of wound infection; There are also coarse and fine specifications (such as 3-0, 4-0, etc.) that are suitable for different tissues (fine tissue uses fine seam thread, load-bearing tissue uses coarse seam thread).
