Tongue Depressor

Tongue depressor is a type of circular thin film with two ends, mainly used for visual diagnosis of the pharynx, and is an essential examination tool. This device is used to press down on the tongue for easy inspection of surrounding organs and tissues, and its materials include bamboo, plastic, wood, and other varieties. Wooden tongue depressors are the most common and commonly used because they embody the hygiene requirements for disposable use.

Nasal and sinus examination method：

① Front nasal examination method. The examiner places the anterior nasal endoscope into the nasal vestibule, opens the upper and lower lobes, enlarges the anterior nostrils, and inspects the nasal septum, inferior turbinates, middle turbinates, common nasal meatus, inferior nasal meatus, middle nasal meatus, and olfactory cleft.
② Posterior nasal examination method. The examiner holds the tongue depressor with their left hand and presses down the front 2/3 of the tongue. They then insert the posterior nasal scope between the soft palate and the posterior pharyngeal wall to examine the posterior nostrils, nasal turbinates, posterior edge of the nasal passage, pharyngeal opening of the Eustachian tube, pharyngeal recess, and top of the nasopharynx.
③ Sinus examination method. Including observing the cheeks, palpating the cheeks, upper corners of the eye sockets, etc., to understand whether there is tenderness, protrusion, etc. Maxillary sinus puncture flushing method is helpful in diagnosing inflammation or other diseases of the maxillary sinus. Sinus X-ray imaging is commonly used to diagnose sinus diseases.
④ Hard and soft tube nasal endoscopy examination method. Can conduct a detailed examination of various parts of the nasal cavity, observe the openings of each sinus, and perform nasal and sinus surgeries.
