Influenza is an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by the influenza virus. Wang Ming, a consulting expert from the Guangdong Provincial Association of Preventive Medicine, recently stated that monitoring data shows that the current flu situation has slightly declined compared to the peak period, but there is still a certain degree of epidemic, especially the need to be vigilant against the summer flu outbreak. He said that influenza is more prevalent in autumn and winter, but sporadic cases occur throughout the year, so it is still important to pay attention to vaccination at present.
At the academic seminar on seasonal influenza prevention and control strategies held by the Guangdong Provincial Association of Preventive Medicine, Li Zengqing, director of the Children's Respiratory Department at the Guangdong Maternal and Child Health Hospital, introduced that since the end of last year, the number of influenza affected children who came to the hospital for treatment has been relatively high. In recent times, the number of infections has decreased to some extent compared to before, but we still cannot take it lightly. The population is generally susceptible to influenza virus, and high-risk groups such as pregnant women, infants and young children, the elderly, and chronic disease patients are more susceptible to influenza infection. Li Zengqing is particularly concerned about the impact of influenza on children.
After children get influenza, they often have a sudden onset, with symptoms such as high fever, chills, chills, headaches, muscle soreness, fatigue, decreased appetite, as well as coughing, sore throat, runny nose or nasal congestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.
Most uncomplicated flu patients experience relief in symptoms within 3 to 7 days, but cough and physical recovery often take 1 to 2 weeks. "The treatment of influenza should adhere to early diagnosis and treatment, prevent complications, and reduce mortality." Li Zengqing said that the golden period of treatment is within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms, which can achieve better treatment results.
After the patient visits the hospital, the severity of the condition should be evaluated. Mild cases should be left in the outpatient department for treatment, while severe cases must be hospitalized. Symptomatic treatment drugs should be used reasonably to avoid blind or inappropriate use of antibiotics.
Furthermore, prevention is particularly crucial. Li Zengqing said, "Vaccination is the main effective means of preventing influenza, which can significantly reduce the risk of influenza and serious complications for influenza vaccinators." From vaccination to antibody production, there is an intermediate process. Usually, after 2 to 4 weeks of vaccination, antibodies with a protective level can be produced, and protective antibodies can be maintained for 6 to 8 months.
To ensure that recipients receive immune protection before the peak flu season, it is recommended to get vaccinated as early as possible after the flu vaccine is available or before the peak flu season, which can have better protective effects. "In general, there is no significant difference between trivalent and quadrivalent influenza vaccines, and both can have effective preventive effects." Wang Ming said that different populations can choose which vaccine to receive according to their own situation.
Experts say that whether the incidence of influenza is high depends on prevention strategies and implementation effectiveness. If the influenza vaccination rate increases, protective measures such as wearing masks and frequent ventilation are in place, it is possible to control influenza at a low prevalence level.
