According to the British transplant service, 287 people have been waiting for lung transplantation since march31,2008. At present, British scientists are developing a portable lung that can enable people who have difficulty breathing to live a normal life. Their device can supply oxygen to the blood outside the body before passing through the lungs. It may become another option for lung transplantation, allowing patients to live a normal life.
It is reported that the research was conducted by scientists from Swansea University in the UK. The device mimics the function of the lungs by inhaling oxygen and exhaling carbon dioxide from the blood. Researcher bill? Professor Jones conceived the idea after his son died of cystic fibrosis. He said: "we are making something that will help people, which is very important. Patients will not have to be restricted to sitting in wheelchairs with oxygen cylinders. They can walk around and do something for themselves."
According to the data of the British Lung Foundation, there are more than 40 diseases in the UK that affect respiratory capacity due to lung and tracheal diseases, including lung cancer, tuberculosis, asthma, chronic lung disease, cystic fibrosis, sleep apnea, avian influenza, bronchiolitis and many other diseases.
