According to the Japanese news website "Nippon" on February 3rd, avian influenza is spreading at an "unprecedented" speed in Japan, with 5.4 million poultry animals, including chickens, being culled in January alone. The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has warned that the current avian influenza epidemic shows no signs of weakening, and the situation may further deteriorate, even breaking previous records.
