Some examinations and treatments that once required referral to higher-level hospitals can now be performed at county hospitals; patients long reliant on hemodialysis no longer need to frequently travel; early screening and diagnosis have been achieved for certain ear, nose, and throat diseases... In recent years, Wuding County in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, has continuously enhanced its county-level medical services, enabling residents to enjoy more convenient and high-quality healthcare at their doorstep.
As a mountainous county, Wuding County's residents once faced issues such as relatively insufficient medical resources and high costs for seeking treatment outside the area. In recent years, during the process of enhancing county-level medical capabilities, China Merchants Bank has cumulatively supported the construction of medical facilities at Wuding County People's Hospital with 16.99 million yuan, aiding in the improvement of key specialty departments and diagnostic equipment, and facilitating the extension of high-quality medical resources to grassroots levels.
Currently, over 98% of dialysis patients in Wuding County can receive standardized treatment locally. Projects such as ultra-wide-angle fundus photography and adolescent myopia screening have been implemented within the county. After the establishment of the Nasopharyngeal and Laryngeal Cancer Screening Center, the hospital's capabilities in examining ear, nose, and throat diseases and performing certain endoscopic surgeries have been further enhanced.
Upon completion, the hemodialysis center will meet the long-term standardized treatment needs of local patients and gradually provide emergency dialysis services for acute conditions such as heart failure, drug poisoning, and severe pancreatitis. For patients requiring long-term dialysis, nearby treatment not only reduces travel but also lowers costs related to transportation, accommodation, and caregiver support.
The enhancement of ophthalmic diagnosis and treatment capabilities has also benefited the public. With the deployment of relevant equipment, certain fundus examinations and myopia screenings previously requiring trips to Kunming and other cities can now be conducted at county hospitals. By April 2026, these devices had served over 2,300 patients. Leveraging public welfare initiatives, the hospital has also performed free cataract surgeries for nearly 400 economically disadvantaged individuals and established the county's first pediatric ophthalmology department, further improving pediatric eye disease diagnosis and treatment services.
