On the 4th, spokesperson for the National Health Commission, Mi Feng, stated in Beijing that it is currently the peak time for returning home before the Spring Festival, and there is a continuous trend of cross regional tourism between the north and south in China, as well as overseas sightseeing. The large-scale flow and gathering of people can easily accelerate the spread of respiratory diseases, and respiratory diseases will still maintain a certain level of prevalence before and after the Spring Festival.
The National Health Commission held a press conference on the prevention and health tips for winter respiratory diseases on the same day. Mi Feng said at the meeting that recently, China's COVID-19 has fluctuated at a low level, and the number of people infected with influenza and mycoplasma pneumoniae has fallen back. The diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases in outpatient and emergency departments of medical institutions at or above the second level nationwide continue to remain stable.
Regarding the prevention and control work before and after the Spring Festival, Mi Feng stated that the National Health Commission has made special arrangements. All regions should strengthen their duty, maintain emergency preparedness, and coordinate medical and health resources and professional forces. The 120 emergency hotline should ensure 24-hour smooth operation and ensure proper emergency transportation.
Mi Feng stated that fever clinics and consultation rooms in hospitals at or above the second level and grassroots medical and health institutions should be fully opened, and medical forces should be strengthened. Key departments such as emergency department, pediatrics, and respiratory department should have smooth green channels and arrange medical service guarantees during holidays. We need to strengthen the forward movement of checkpoints, protect key populations such as the elderly, children, pregnant women, and patients with chronic basic diseases, and meet the medical and emergency needs of the people.
Mi Feng pointed out that in recent times, there has been a large-scale and sustained low temperature, rain, snow, and freezing weather in the central and eastern regions of China. The wide coverage and long duration of rain and snow may have adverse effects on public health. When traveling, the public should pay attention to the weather change, keep warm from cold, and patients with basic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes should take common drugs. Strengthen station safety and control measures to ensure the safety and health of the public at home.
