Excessive blowing of air conditioning and fans may induce rheumatism, and sweating through hot springs and saunas may not achieve the goal of preventing rheumatism. Recently, reporters interviewed Chen Yansong, director of the Rheumatology Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, on how to prevent rheumatism in summer.
Chen Yansong stated that from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, rheumatic diseases are mainly caused by the invasion of wind, cold, dampness, heat, or heat on the joints of the limbs, resulting in blocked meridians and poor circulation of qi and blood. Patients may experience symptoms such as joint swelling, pain, numbness, and in severe cases, joint deformation.
On scorching summer days, some people excessively blow air conditioning and fans, which can easily trigger disease recurrence for rheumatic patients. For those without rheumatism, it can also cause disease outbreaks. In addition, it is not scientific to try to prevent rheumatic diseases by sweating through hot springs, saunas, and other methods. This is because the above practices can easily cause joints to be attacked by evil spirits, "Chen Yansong said.
It is understood that elderly and frail women, middle-aged women, postpartum women, and those who prefer a high purine diet are prone to developing rheumatism. The first three are due to susceptibility to external wind, cold, dampness, and other invasions, while the group of people who prefer high purine drinking is due to their preference for fatty, sweet, and greasy foods, which can easily lead to gout.
