The study found that the daily sitting time was J-shaped curve with the lowest risk of 6 hours of rest time per day, while the risk of sitting time ≥ 10 hours / day increased significantly.

The risk of cancer incidence, cancer death and all-cause death increased by 16%, 24% and 15% respectively compared with those who had sedentary time of less than 6 hours per day.

Moreover, a large number of moderate physical activity does not offset the risk of sitting long. Failure to achieve the recommended level of moderate physical activity may further enhance the adverse effects of sedentary.

Compared with those who sit for less than 6 hours a day and do not achieve 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week, those who sit at least 10 hours a day have a higher risk of all-cause mortality (HR = 1.21 and 1.72) regardless of whether they have 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week.

The study included 95319 Chinese adults, and came from three large queues of cardiovascular disease risk prediction in China, including the multi center collaborative study of China cardiovascular epidemiology research center in 1998 (China mucA 1998), international cooperation research on cardiovascular diseases in China (Asia), community intervention of metabolic syndrome and Chinese family health research.

The average sedentary time of the residents participating in the study was 7.9 hours a day. In the follow-up of 559002 people, 2388 cancers, 1571 cancer deaths and 4562 deaths occurred.
