The study found that there was a J-shaped curve between daily sedentary time and cancer incidence and death. The risk of 6 hours of daily resting time was the lowest, while the risk of sedentary time ≥ 10 hours / day was significantly increased.
Compared with the sedentary time <6 hours per day, the sedentary time ≥ 10 hours per day increased the risk of cancer onset, cancer death and all-cause death by 16%, 24% and 15% respectively.
In addition, a large number of moderate intensity physical activity can not offset the risk of sedentary. Failure to reach the recommended level of moderate intensity physical activity may further enhance the adverse effects of sedentary.
Compared with those who sedentary for <6 hours per day and did not reach 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity per week, those who sedentary for ≥ 10 hours per day had a higher risk of all-cause mortality regardless of whether they reached 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity per week (hr=1.21 and 1.72).
The study included 95319 Chinese adults from three large cohorts for cardiovascular disease risk prediction in China, including the multi center collaborative research of China cardiovascular epidemiology research center in 1998 (China mucA 1998), the international cooperative research of China (Asia), the community intervention of metabolic syndrome and the Chinese family health research.
The average sedentary time of the residents participating in the study was 7.9 hours per day. During the follow-up of 559002 person years, 2388 cases of cancer occurred, 1571 cases of cancer died, and 4562 people died.
