When the elderly suffer from a variety of diseases, they should distinguish the primary and secondary, treat the main diseases and acute diseases first, use less drugs in accordance with the principle of caution, and try to consider that "one drug can cure many diseases", so as to achieve twice the result with half the effort. Because of mixed drugs, there will be interactions in the body. Drug interactions can reduce efficacy and easily increase side effects.

The dose should be from small to large. The elderly are sensitive to some drugs, especially some drugs that need to be taken for a long time, and the dose should be strictly controlled. It is best to start taking half of the conventional dose and gradually increase the dose until the curative effect appears.

Avoid suddenly stopping antihypertensive drugs, hypoglycemic drugs and some hormone drugs. Do not stop the medicine suddenly without the consent of the doctor, otherwise it may cause the increase of blood pressure or blood glucose, sometimes lead to nausea, vomiting, fever and other symptoms, and make the condition repeated or aggravated.

Oral drugs that can be taken orally without injection are relatively safe and have mild adverse reactions. Most of the adverse reactions caused by drug injection have serious symptoms, which brings difficulties to rescue. Special care should be taken for intravenous administration.

Take medicine on time. The instructions clearly state when to take medicine, such as before, after or before going to bed. Because the efficacy of some drugs is closely related to taking time, ignoring this will not only directly affect the efficacy, but also have stronger toxic and side effects.
