What time do you fall asleep every day? If the answer is before 23:00, congratulations, you may have already defeated most people. If you have never experienced insomnia, then you are the dragon and phoenix among people.

The recently released "2024 White Paper on Sleep Health of Chinese Residents" shows that the overall sleep quality of residents is poor, and "post-00s" have difficulty falling asleep

The average daily sleep of residents is less than 7 hours

On the 16th, the Chinese Sleep Research Association released the annual theme of World Sleep Day in Beijing - "Healthy Sleep for All", and launched a large-scale national sleep science popularization activity. The "2024 White Paper on Sleep Health for Chinese Residents" was also released simultaneously.

This survey report shows that on average, residents fall asleep after midnight and their nighttime sleep duration is generally shorter. The average number of awakenings at night is not high, but the overall sleep score is 75 points, with significant room for improvement.

In addition, 28% of the population sleep for no more than 6 hours at night, 64% have poor sleep quality (<80 points), with 22% having poor sleep quality (<70 points).

Most people have experienced sleep problems, mainly including waking up late/early, difficulty falling asleep, and using the toilet at night. In addition, the report also mentioned that among the surveyed subjects, insomnia is not optimistic, with 59% of people experiencing insomnia symptoms, and only 19% of people without sleep disorders.

Post-00s have difficulty falling asleep, and college students are addicted to mobile phones

The survey results released this time also show that only 29% of the surveyed population fell asleep before 23:00, 47% fell asleep after midnight, and 13% fell asleep after 2:00 am. Among them, the average time for "post-00s" to fall asleep is 00:33, and the time for "before 70s" to fall asleep is 23:02.

Retired individuals born in the 1970s and post-70s are often troubled by waking up late/early and using the toilet at night, while young people born in the 2000s and 1990s struggle with falling asleep.

Regarding the college student population, a survey shows that 56% of college students use their phones for more than 8 hours a day, with 51% falling asleep after midnight and 19% falling asleep more than 2:00 am.

In addition, office workers tend to have more sufficient sleep at night on non working days, sleeping an average of 33 minutes more than on working days. They also fall asleep and wake up later than on working days, while college students fall asleep and wake up later than office workers on non working days.

The higher the frequency of drinking, the lower the quality of sleep

The report released this time also reveals the relationship between sleep and lifestyle.

The data shows that people who love sports (monthly exercise frequency>=10 times) tend to go to bed and wake up early, with an average of 23:56 falling asleep and 7:26 awakening. Compared to those who exercise frequency<=3 times a month, the nighttime sleep duration of people is less than 14 minutes.

The drinking population sleeps an average of 27 minutes less per night than the non drinking population. The higher the frequency of drinking, the lower the quality of sleep. People who drink more than 7 times a week have a 4 point lower sleep score than those who never drink.

In addition, as BMI (body mass index) increases, the proportion of people with sleep scores greater than 80 gradually decreases. When BMI is greater than or equal to 28, only 21% of the population has a sleep score greater than 80.
