Milk tea is a drink made of milk, tea and sugar. However, there are also milk tea composed of many food additives on the market. A survey conducted by the Shanghai Consumer Protection Commission shows that the creamer, trans fatty acids, sugar and caffeine of some milk tea on the market exceed the standard. Then, which ingredients in milk tea should be responsible for insomnia?

Why does milk tea make people insomnia?

Creamer contains high trans fatty acids

Have you ever tried making milk tea at home? If you just mix milk with boiled tea, but it's not as good as the milk tea sold outside?

In addition to milk and tea, the outside milk tea also adds other food additives, one of which is creamer. A component called trans fatty acid in creamer can take away the astringency of tea and make the taste of milk tea better.

In a spot check conducted by the Shanghai Consumer Association, it was found that the trans fatty acids in most milk teas in Shanghai generally exceeded the standard. The dietary guidelines for Chinese residents (2016) recommends that the daily intake of trans fatty acids per person should not exceed 2G [3]. If it exceeds this content, what will happen?

A study on men's insomnia and diet suggests that excessive trans fat intake will aggravate insomnia. The study involved 15273 men aged 58-93 years, who had no cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, and were in good health. [4]

The results showed that excessive intake of trans fatty acids would lead to lighter sleep, easy to wake up at night, and feel more tired after waking up.

Good milk covers are high in fat

Many girls have a liking for the mouth of milk covered tea, and the white foam that covers the delicate and thick silk is memorable. But what is the fat content of the milk cover?

According to the spot check report of Shanghai Consumer Association, the fat content of milk tea with milk cover is between 5.4-7.7g/100ml, with an average of 6.3g/100ml. Among them, a cup of milk tea with the most fat content can provide 41g fat, more than 2 / 3 of the recommended daily fat intake for adults, while the recommended daily fat intake for adults is less than 60g.

The study found that people who like to eat high-fat food are prone to insomnia at night.

Researchers at the University of Adelaide in Australia conducted the study with more than 1800 men aged 35 to 80.

The study found that 47% of people who are used to high-fat diet have low sleep quality at night, and 54% suffer from mild to moderate sleep asphyxia. These symptoms affect the daily life of people who need to be alert and focused at work.

Sweet sugar will also make you insomnia

The most neglected thing in milk tea may be the content of sugar. Among the 27 milk tea samples marked with normal sweetness sampled by Shanghai Consumer Association, the average content of sugar is 34g, and the highest one is 62g, which is equal to 14 pieces of sugar. The detection of 20 so-called sugar free samples found that they all contained sugar, and the sugar content exceeded the "sugar free" standard.

According to the national beverage standard, if the sugar content in the beverage is less than 0.5g/100g, it is sugar free, and if the sugar content is less than 2G / 100g, it is low sugar.

A report on "sleep and diet" by the National Institutes of Health pointed out that people who are prone to insomnia have more sugar intake.

The study involved people from 20 to 80 years old. The researchers analyzed people with short sleep time (less than 6 hours) or sleep disorders and found that the diet structure of people prone to insomnia is mostly similar, and they have one thing in common: they have a high intake of sugar in their diet, mainly because they drink too many sugary drinks.

The researchers pointed out that this is related to the sample data of a large number of young people, who will order a delicious afternoon tea. Therefore, easy insomnia and short sleep time are closely related to the high intake of sugar in this group of people.

Milk tea contains a lot of caffeine

Medical information network learned that: after drinking milk tea, some consumers have accelerated heartbeat, hand tremor, inhibition of appetite and sleep.

This is because there is tea in milk tea. Tea contains a certain amount of caffeine, and caffeine is the main reason why some people can't sleep.

Caffeine is an alkaloid in tea. It can relieve fatigue, stimulate nerves and promote blood circulation, but excessive or long-term use will damage human health.
