Ovarian cancer is a malignant tumor of the female reproductive system. Due to its insidious onset and lack of obvious symptoms in the early stages, it often progresses to the middle and late stages once discovered, hence it is called "silent cancer".

Wang Yudong, the director of the International Peace Maternal and Child Health Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and an expert in gynecological oncology, stated in an interview on the 8th that female friends aged 50 to 79, with a family history, genetic mutations (such as BRCA gene mutations), never giving birth or infertility, using hormone replacement therapy, and a history of endometriosis should undergo strict annual physical examinations and screening.

Wang Yudong, who has been engaged in the treatment and clinical application research of gynecological tumors related to reproduction for a long time, is deeply involved in the field of minimally invasive surgery for gynecological tumors and the protection of gynecological tumor fertility. He has led the development of the "Chinese Consensus on Diagnosis and Treatment of Ovarian Tumors during Pregnancy" and proposed a "laparoscopic" surgical approach for cervical cancer, which greatly reduces the incidence of normal tissue damage and large bleeding during the treatment of gynecological malignant tumors.

This expert pointed out, "Although early detection of ovarian cancer is difficult, there are still many abnormal signals in the body that need to be vigilant, such as gradually increasing abdominal circumference, persistent fullness, decreased appetite, weight loss, chronic pain in the lower abdomen or pelvic cavity, as well as symptoms such as frequent urination and urgency."

The National Cancer Center: National Cancer Report 2022 shows that there are about 57000 new cases of ovarian cancer in China every year, with the incidence rate ranking third among the malignant tumors of the female reproductive system and the mortality ranking first. On that day, the "World Ovarian Cancer Special Public Welfare Activity" was held in the Fengxian Campus of the "National Maternal and Child Hospital". Experts in the fields of gynecology, oncology, gynecology, nutrition, nursing, etc. have provided a detailed introduction and popularization of science from the perspectives of disease diagnosis, prevention and treatment, prognosis nursing, etc. through a combination of online and offline methods. The event also invited three patients who had previously received treatment for ovarian cancer to share their personal experiences and beliefs on how to overcome tumors.

Ms. Zhu (pseudonym) from Jiangsu Province is now in her sixties. Seven years ago, during a physical examination, she was found to have a tumor with a diameter of 7 centimeters in her ovaries. At that time, she was only 26 years old and was preparing to marry her boyfriend. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment team of "National Women and Infants" have developed personalized treatment plans for Ms. Zhu, and her surgical treatment and subsequent adjuvant chemotherapy have been very smooth.

In an interview, Wang Yudong said, "For young cancer patients who have not given birth or have fertility needs, doctors can try to preserve their natural fertility function as much as possible in the treatment plan. At the same time, they can combine assisted reproduction, obstetrics and gynecology, medical genetics, fetal medicine, neonatology, etc. to provide comprehensive guarantees for their subsequent fertility."

According to statistics, in recent years, China's women and infants have treated nearly 50 cases of gynecological malignant tumors and precancerous lesions with fertility preservation needs per year, and have helped about 300 patients successfully give birth to healthy offspring on the basis of completing tumor treatment.
