At present, PVC is widely used as raw material for disposable medical devices at home and abroad. The material has the advantages of excellent comprehensive physical and mechanical properties, low price and simple production process. However, the use of PVC as disposable medical devices has the following shortcomings:
1. A very small amount of polyethylene monomer may remain in PVC, which has been proved to be carcinogenic; plasticizers that must be used during processing may gradually migrate to contaminate the liquid; adding a variety of metal-containing compounds as stabilizers may endanger human health; in order to improve the stability of metal stabilizers, the addition of phosphorus-containing adjuvants will be further increased. The toxicity of PVC materials and the difficulty of disposal of waste PVC will cause serious pollution to the environment.
2. Because of the above defects in PVC materials, some developed countries in the United States, Japan and Europe are developing alternative materials for PVC. So far, PVC still dominates the disposable medical device market due to the lack of alternative materials that can compete with PVC in comprehensive performance and price.
Medical products such as disposable syringes conforming to the production standards of medical devices have been strictly disinfected and sterilized before and during the packaging of products, which can be said to be totally sterile. Therefore, it is not necessary to re-disinfect them when they are unpacked or used. Otherwise, they will be polluted because "self-disinfection treatment" is not strict and comprehensive for manufacturers. The opposite is true.
