Generally speaking, places with higher birth rates are often those with lower urbanization rates. However, there are exceptions. Guangdong, the first largest economic province, had an urbanization rate of 75.91% last year, ranking fourth in the country. However, Guangdong's birth rate reached 8.89 ‰ last year, ranking among the top provinces that have been announced.
Peng Peng, the executive chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Association for Structural Reform Research, previously analyzed that on the one hand, Guangdong's total permanent population ranks first in the country, and the total influx of people from outside the province is very large. The structure of the incoming population is relatively young, and the proportion of people of marriage and childbearing age is relatively high. On the other hand, places like Chaoshan in eastern Guangdong and Zhanjiang in western Guangdong, although their willingness to have children has been declining in recent years, are still relatively high compared to other regions due to the influence of traditional fertility culture.
From the perspective of natural population growth rate, 10 of the 29 provinces that have published birth population related data achieved natural positive population growth last year, including Xinjiang, Guangdong, Qinghai, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, Beijing, Fujian, Xizang and Hainan, mainly in the western and eastern coastal provinces.
