October 20th is World Osteoporosis Day. On that day, under the joint guidance of the Medical Emergency Department of the National Health Commission, the China Health Education Center, and the Office of the Chinese Journalists Association, the China Association for Health Promotion and Education, the Osteoporosis and Bone Mineral Diseases Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, the Health Communication Branch of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, and the National Action Office of the National Health Lifestyle Action jointly held the "China Health Knowledge Communication Incentive Plan -2024 Health Bone Science Popularization and Communication Conference" in Beijing. Representatives from relevant institutions provided a detailed interpretation of the Chinese theme for World Osteoporosis Day 2024, which is "Managing Weight and Strengthening Bones".
According to Kong Lingzhi, executive vice president and secretary-general of the China Association for Health Promotion and Education, the determination of the China theme aims to advocate and disseminate knowledge and topics in the field of healthy bones that are more suitable for Chinese people, and more targeted to help the public with bone health. The Chinese theme of "Managing Weight and Strengthening Bones" aims to combine weight management with osteoporosis prevention and control, and actively cooperate with the implementation of the Weight Management Year activities. In the future, a new version of practical tools such as bone exercises will be launched.
Xia Weibo suggests that the key to "managing weight and strengthening bones" is to manage body composition, reduce fat, and increase muscle mass. Managing weight is not about "starving", but about paying attention to balanced nutrition and controlling total energy intake. In terms of strengthening bones, it is recommended that the public engage in appropriate weight-bearing, resistance, and strength exercises according to their own situation, in order to promote bone health through scientific exercise.
