On July 21st, at the fifth report meeting of the "Ensuring and Improving People's Livelihood in High Quality Development" policy series, Lei Haichao, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the National Health Commission, outlined new achievements in the construction of a healthy China using sets of data.
Lei Haichao introduced that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee has placed greater emphasis on safeguarding people's health and made significant strategic deployments for building a healthy China. China has made historic achievements in the development of its healthcare industry, establishing and continuously consolidating the world's largest medical services, traditional medicine, disease prevention and control, and medical security system. It has achieved a historic goal of ensuring basic medical care for the impoverished population, withstanding the severe impact of the century's epidemic, and continuously improving the health level of the people.
During the 14th Five Year Plan period, the average height of males and females aged 6 to 17 in China increased by 2.1 centimeters and 2.2 centimeters respectively. The rising trend of overweight and obesity in children under 6 years old has been effectively controlled, and the coverage rate of eye care and vision examination for children aged 0 to 6 in China has reached 95.8%. The premature mortality rate of major chronic diseases has been reduced to below 14%, and the health literacy level of residents nationwide is improving at an average annual rate of nearly 2 percentage points, reaching 33.69% by 2025.
